Giddy Up for Good!
Giving brings us closer to creating the world we would want to live in.
Hey BaseCampers, here’s a great way to use your hard-earned fitness even after BaseCamp ends! Get on board this Memorial Day weekend with Rebecca Rusch’s annual fundraiser, the Giddy Up Challenge, powered by BaseCamp. Rebecca's coach and BaseCamp head coach Tim Cusick has partnered with Rebecca to develop an eight-week training plan to prepare you to conquer the challenge! There won't be a Facebook group or other formal online community for this event, but there are multiple plans to choose from based on your available training time, and Tim and Rebecca will host three live webinars to support your training.
Rebecca Rusch’s Be Good™ Foundation enriches communities by using the bicycle as a catalyst for healing, empowerment, and evolution. Your participation will support environmental conservation. In 2020, the Giddy Up Challenge raised over $130,000 for COVID-19 relief, and we want to do even better this year!
How to Giddy Up
The Giddy Up Challenge is a test of your climbing skills and tenacity. It's open from May 28, at 12:01 a.m. MST through Monday, May 31, at 11:59 p.m. MST. Choose your elevation level and then ride or run (outdoors or indoors) the full elevation in any one day during the event.
There are prizes! Awards will be presented to the top female and male finishers in each category and in each discipline, along with the top three fundraisers.
Choose from four elevation options:
Queen's Full Everest
Three Quarter Everest
Everesting with Rebecca: The Ultimate Test
Rebecca is setting out to ride multiple laps on the infamous RPI Trail Creek hill climb with the goal of climbing the equivalent elevation of Mount Everest (29,092 feet) in a single day, and you can join her from wherever you are! Choose your distance and your discipline and Giddy Up! We’ll motivate each other and pedal/run for purpose.
As Rebecca's coach and the head coach of BaseCamp, Tim is proud to partner with Rebecca to develop a series of eight-week bike training plans to prepare you for the Giddy Up Challenge, along with three live webinars for training support. All you need is a free basic TrainingPeaks account. The workouts are written for power and/or heart rate.
There won't be an online community or Facebook group for this event like in BaseCamp, but we can participate and show our support!
The entry fee to participate in the Giddy Up Challenge and to be eligible for prizes is $55. If you'd like to follow Tim's training plan to prepare for the challenge, the fee is $95 and includes both your entry fee and your training plan.
