Justin's story: L'Étape Texas

BaseCamper Justin Hersom shared his experience at the 2024 L'Étape Texas in San Antonio.

First outdoor race in years, the L`etape 60, and I was quite pleased with my performance and focusing on my process goals. My goals were on the bike nutrition (something I forget) and have a negative split (which I achieved). I spent a good bit of the race catching up, as I got to the line a bit late, and only then did I realize that I was in the 25 mile group, ooops! I held a steady power most of the race, and hit all time PRs for the 50mi, and for 80 and 90k. I felt like I fueled well. I came in 32nd in my age group, I would have come in 27th, but a 1 mile from the line my right hamstring cramped and then my left psoas started to cramp, so I had to stop for well over a minute to stretch it out. Before cramping, I looked behind me and didn't see anyone for over 500m (nor anyone in front of me), and one guy pipped me at the line. LOL. I am still happy with my performance.
