Match carb expenditure to EEE

We can use the Exercise Energy Expenditure versus Logged Carb section within the Hexis Trends to analyze the relationship between our Exercise Energy Expenditure and Carbohydrate Intake. To access this feature, go to your Trends page and select Exercise and Nutrition from the dropdown menu; this opens up your Hexis Trends dashboard with your weekly exercise and nutrition comparison. Watch the video below for a demonstration.

The main display shows a dual-axis chart that compares two key metrics across your week. The white bars represent your Exercise Energy Expenditure (EEE, the calories you burned during planned workouts and training sessions), and the blue line with dots shows your logged carbohydrates (the actual grams of carbs you consumed and tracked each day). The left Y axis shows the Exercise Energy Expenditure values in calories, while the right Y axis displays Carbohydrate Intake in grams.

This dual-axis design allows you to see both metrics clearly despite their different measurement units. Tap on any bar or data point to see detailed information for that specific day; a tooltip will appear showing the exact Exercise Energy Expenditure value for your workouts and the precise amount of carbohydrates you logged.

This chart helps you identify whether carbohydrate intake is appropriately matched to your training demands. On high EEE days where you burned significant calories through exercise, you should see a correspondingly higher carbohydrate intake to fuel and recover from those sessions. Conversely, on rest days or low-intensity training days with minimal EEE, your carb intake should be lower.

Look for patterns where the carb line doesn't align well with the EEE bars. If you see high EEE but low logged carbs, this indicates potential under-fueling that could impact your performance or recovery. Similarly, high carb intake on low EEE days might suggest over-fueling relative to your training demands.

For a better view of the chart, you can rotate your device to landscape mode by selecting the right chevron; this expands the display and makes it easier to analyze the relationship between your exercise output and carbohydrate fueling strategy. This comparison is based on Hexis's fuel-for-the-work-required approach, ensuring your carbohydrate periodization matches your actual training energy demands rather than following a static daily intake.
