COACHING PHILOSOPHY

EXPERIENCE
MEETS SCIENCE.

My coaching style is what I would call flexible and educational. I like the riders I work with to understand why the program and workouts I suggest will help them on they day of their big events. But I also know what it is like to try to train hard with a job and family and other outside factors that are in every life, so being flexible and willing to make adjustments is the best way for an athlete to be as ready as possible on race day.

THE FULL STORY

ABOUT ME AS A COACH.

I started out aspiring to be a tennis player.

One of my partners mentioned that the coolest job to him would be to work in a bike shop, so when the opportunity came along, I took it and spent then next few years selling and working on bikes.

When I graduated from college (1985), my first big purchase was a Colnago Superissimo with the latest and greatest Dura-Ace (6spd). I spent the next 18 years working full time as a SW engineer and racing any chance I could get, driving nearly every weekend to races everywhere from New Jersey to Florida.

In 2004 I took the chance and left my job path as a software engineer and got certified as a personal trainer and then started coaching cyclist.

In 2010 I earned my Level 1 Coaching upgrade.

Preparing for the Personal Trainer Certification (NSCA) was a great opportunity to learn a lot about exercise physiology, which has made designing and prescribing workouts more than just "doing what everyone else does."

I've had some great opportunities to work with some successful riders over the years, including a few national championship medalists and a few pros.

I spent around 10 years doing bike fits for over 100 riders, and that has given me a great background for finding potential issues for riders when they have issues with comfort or even injuries.
