About the Event
If you look at your plan for March 4, you probably have a big Tempo Hour of Power block for over an hour. Wouldn't that be more fun to do as a challenge climbing the toughest, longest climb on Zwift? Definitely! But here's the twist: Instead of loading the workout and just doing it on the Ven-Top (Mont Ventoux) course, we will do it as a mass start hill climb event/race (just like the Alpe du Zwift Challenge back in Cycle 2)!
If you would like to participate, here are your instructions:
- Hop onto Zwift about 30-60 minutes prior to the meetup. Get in a good warm up and maybe a little AE, then join the meetup.
- Once in the meetup, do NOT load a workout. We will tackle Ventoux just like we tackled the Alpe - in Sim mode! You will make your own power, use your gears, etc.
- Unlike Alpe du Zwift, the lead-in to the Ventoux climb is very short; the climbing starts almost right away.
- The "Keep Everyone Together" feature will NOT be on. Everyone will be climbing at their own pace. Find another BaseCamper of similar strength and work with them to the top!
- When you have finished the climb, ride back down the mountain and finish off the ride with some aerobic endurance (if needed).
- Curious as to how long it will take you to climb Mont Ventoux? A very rough estimate is about 1.5 times as long as it took you to climb Alpe du Zwift. If you climbed the Alpe in 60 minutes, it will probably take you somewhere around 90 minutes to summit Ventoux. (If you really want to really drill down on this, check this out: https://www.bestbikesplit.com/zwift/201250.) Here is some info on the Ven-Top route: https://zwiftinsider.com/route/ven-top/
- Finally, this is meant to be fun and to add a little variety to our training next weekend. Everyone is welcome, regardless whether you climb fast or not as fast.
Once you sign up for this meetup ride by clicking "RSVP" or "Join," the ride leader will be notified and will send you an invitation to this ride through the Zwift Companion app. Click here to watch Coach Tim's video demonstration of how to join a meetup.
