I’m a cycling coach based in Vermont with more than 20 years of coaching experience. I work with cyclists of all levels, from recreational riders and first-time racers to experienced gravel, mountain bike, and road athletes preparing for competitive events or endurance challenges.
What I value most in coaching is the long-term relationships I build with my athletes. I learn alongside them what motivates them, what helps them perform at their best, and how to make consistent training fit within the demands of work, family, and real life while keeping cycling fun.
I use data from TrainingPeaks and WKO to evaluate fitness, fatigue, power, heart rate, training load, and performance trends. But data is only useful when we understand the athlete behind it; knowing an athlete's goals, schedule, stress, motivation, strengths, and life outside cycling helps me turn that information into practical, individualized training.
I enjoy helping athletes prepare for gravel races, mountain bike races, road events, cycling camps, or self-imposed endurance challenges. I also work with cyclists who have no interest in racing and simply want to become stronger, stay healthy, ride consistently, and keep cycling an important part of their lives.
Community is another important part of my coaching. I bring athletes together through shared events and cycling camps. Since 2022 I've hosted my twice-yearly More Cows Than Cars gravel camps in Vermont, along with BaseCamp training camps and group event experiences, to give my athletes an opportunity to challenge themselves and share the sport with each other.
My background includes a degree focused on exercise physiology, nutrition, and coaching from Miami University, where I competed as a Division I diver. I spent 25 years as a personal trainer in New York City before moving to Vermont in 2020. While living in NYC, I fell in love with mountain biking. I quickly progressed to the pro category and raced all over the East Coast for about 12 years. I also raced extensively on the road, staying mostly in and around NYC.
I'm still a cyclist and racer competing in gravel, mountain bike, and road events throughout Vermont and beyond. Staying active in the sport keeps me connected to the challenges my athletes face and, just as importantly, reminds me why we all love riding bikes in the first place.
My coaching philosophy
I want my athletes to understand their own training and become more confident making decisions on the bike. Over time they should get better at pacing, fueling, recognizing fatigue, understanding their strengths, and knowing what motivates them.
I believe consistency is more important than any single workout and that progress rarely happens in a straight line. Part of coaching is knowing when to push for more and when changing the plan is the smarter decision.
Progress can mean getting faster, setting a new power PR, or reaching a race goal, but it can also mean becoming more confident, riding farther than you thought you could, learning to handle a bad day, or simply becoming more consistent.
Ultimately, I want the athletes I coach to know themselves better, feel prepared for the challenges they take on, and be excited to keep riding. Through all of it, riding your bike should be fun.

Athlete Testimonials
I've been coached by Greg for 3 months now, and I don't know how I could be any happier with my decision to choose him as my coach. I really like where this is headed for me as an endurance athlete... and now expanding into gravel!! Eek! - Cat P.
Greg is great and really in tune with me. - Jeffrey G.
I really enjoy working with Greg. He is quick to respond to my questions, explains to me what we are trying to achieve and how we are going to get there. He’s been great to work with and I feel like we are a good fit for each other 😁. I have come a long way since starting Winter Basecamp training. Thank you for all that the coaches and Basecamp do. It’s been a great experience. - Kelly M.
Greg is doing a great job for me. He is very responsive and has been great planning out my training plan especially with 5 weekends in a row coming up where I'm out of pocket. He added on some endurance rides the last couple of weeks of basecamp as it turned out I had more time for 1hr sessions during the week than I thought I might when I first signed up for Basecamp. 10/10 Thanks - George A.
Just bummed I did not start this sooner. Greg is great. He is informative, responsive and positive. - Jane C.
I appreciate Greg very much. It's not always about the data and the numbers (which he is great at) -- almost as important are the right words at the right time. He drops in kernels of knowledge and encouragement that have have helped me a lot; he cares about his athletes and it shows. - Jamie H.
Coach Greg is awesome! My cycling journey is successfully because of the guidance he provides. - Melissa D.

Coach has been coaching me for almost five years through Covid, a knee replacement and an accident related hip replacement. He is my source of motivation for just as long! - Dan B.
Greg is terrific, and a good friend. A very valuable part of training. Super grateful to work with him. - Douglas S.

I have worked with Greg for a while now and so I could be biased, but he is always there for me and ready to either make changes or answer questions when unexpected things come up. Like injuries, sicknesses, and work. - Amanda A.
Greg is awesome. He also introduced me to Namrita and my session with her was excellent and her suggestions have improved my energy throughout the ride. I also like the BaseCamp training rides, seem more realistic. - Miki E.
Coach Greg is amazing. He understands the older athlete along with my limitations and needs. Knows when I need to pull back and also has more faith in me than I have in myself. He pushes me to be the best version of myself and helps me to get through the hard stuff. As we age, we face challenges that younger athletes don't, and Greg knows how I can overcome those obstacles. He is simply the best. - Linda S.
