EXPERIENCE
MEETS SCIENCE.
I believe that a successful coach-athlete relationship is built over the long term based on trust and demonstrable improvement. I am a very hands-on coach that will be with you on a day-to-day basis. I love how data informs decisions, but I am also a big believer that subjective feedback and dialogue is just as, if not more, important as the numbers. I am a clear communicator and can explain complexity in a simple manner that anyone can understand. I am excited by helping clients achieve their goals and getting what they want from their training and riding.
THE FULL STORY
ABOUT ME AS A COACH.
When I was growing up, cycling was about transportation to and from friends' houses, but when ET came out, we all begged our parents to buy us BMX bikes. As "Radical Rob," I spent school holidays building jumps, berms, and racing tracks, where we would spend all our time making features more extreme until one of us ended up in hospital!
In 2008 I was able to leave my corporate job in London and move back to the beautiful North Devon countryside, where my love for bikes was reignited. At the time I didn't even realise that coaching for amateurs was a thing. My brother, who was racing, persuaded me to get a coach, and that started the journey.
Amazed at how my body and performance changed when training in an organised way, I had a lightbulb moment in 2014 and decided that I would become a coach myself, fulfilling one of my lifetime ambitions of working in sport.
Since then I have coached hundreds of riders remotely, set up and managed youth and junior racing teams, organised and delivered training camps and skills classes, and taken squads of coached riders to major European gran fondos. My daughter lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, so I often visit the USA and have coached numerous American riders for events such as Unbound, Belgium Waffle Ride, Solvang Century, Phil's Cookie Fondo, and Gran Fondo New York.
My corporate experience enables me to have firsthand insight into the demands of a high-pressured career and family life, and how to balance that with training and riding. They say that variety is the spice of life, and that is what I love most about cycling coaching: different skills, different demands, different people, never boring.

ATHLETES ON COACH ROB
Rob is a great coach - having worked with him on and off since 2019 I think we have worked each other out! Always attentive, always clear and always adapting and challenging, he has done exactly what he needed to - give me the big picture of the patterns/ phase and focus on executing the individual sessions. Right amount of data to support and cajole too. - David P.
Rob is a great coach, he always provides good feedback consistently and is responsive to changes in the plan. - Mabel E.
Rob is always super helpful and easy to contact, he always explains if I have any questions and is really supportive! - Clare C.
I wouldn't be nowhere near where I am today without Rob's insights. - Achille C.
