Alyssa's story: Wild Horse Gravel Race
BaseCamp athlete Alyssa Biel shared her experience at the 2026 Wild Horse Gravel Race in Utah.

Back for another Utah Gravel Series event, the Wild Horse My Little Pony course.
I had a good amount of life happenings between the Salty Lizard and this race and decided to do the short course option to be able to knock it out quickly and get back to gettin' with everything else. I didn't know what to expect for this course, so I once again opted to ride my hard tail MTB. Plus it gave me an extra excuse to continue putting in more training miles on MTB instead of my gravel bike, which is important when your biggest event later in the year is a MTB event, right?!
This was a fun, fast course, with a nice, flat start to ease you in, a solid climb, fast descent, and some sand to keep you on your toes after the descent. The MTB was overkill, but it did allow me to descend much quicker than my narrow gravel tires would have permitted.
All in all a good day after spending my last pre-race night in the back of my vehicle snuggled up with my bike. My next race is going to be camping out of my new-to-me tiny camper!
