Mike's story: Irish Hills Gravel

BaseCamp athlete Mike Adsit shared his experience at the 2026 Irish Hills Gravel bike race in Michigan.

This gravel race about an hour from my house. Beautiful country south of Jackson. Did the 50k. Gravel racing is really not my thing, as I dislike the hard mass starts, and the steep little rollers are tough for someone my size. But I love riding gravel and do lots of it. It was 35 at the start and never got above 45. I don't have BaseCamp kit for that weather. Three layers. Ended up 4th in the 70+ group. My 90-minute power was the best for me in some time. Fun to meet up with other BaseCampers. This is an event everyone should put on their list.
