BaseCamp athlete Sue Hageman shared her experience at the 2025 Haddam Hounds Hundy bike race in Kansas.
We rode the Haddam Hounds Hundy 30-miler. It was a great "practice" ride for
Gravel Worlds. This ride is not a timed event. Many thanks and kudos to coach Menachem Brodie for his great advice on how to tackle the ride. He had me ready for this event on the bike and through a strength training program!! Best-made plans however can change due to road conditions!! The first 9 miles had me working on my skills on MMRs. Ruts, washboards and sand! My new wider tires this year paid off through those thicker sandy spots and control!
Then there was a nice section of paved roads after that followed by a few miles of great gravel roads. The end was full of those Nebraska gravel hills! Not too steep but still had to push it hard to get to the top!
I was extremely happy with my ride!!! It helped that this event's weather was GREAT! It was neither hot or cold, and definitely not windy!!! For tbe first time this year.
Many thanks for BaseCamp kits! We met new BaseCamp friends Dave Douglas and Alissa Douglas!!! It's always fun to unexpectedly meet new BaseCamp riders in person!
See a lot of you soon in Lincoln for Gravel Worlds!
