Bruce's story: Gravel Worlds

BaseCamp athlete Bruce Bunn shared his experience at the 2026 Gravel Worlds bike race in Nebraska.

9 months of race prep under the coaching of Paul Jobin. One wrinkle that I added in the last 6 weeks was doing high-intensity intervals on technical gravel roads. The course was pristine fast nontechnical gravel. Weather was initially ideal, with the complication that rain leading into the race was rainy, and the race organizers eliminated all of the minimal maintenance roads on the course as a result. This negated any advantage that I would have had as a result of my experience training on technical gravel. For the last 1/2 to 1 hour, the weather got pretty hot. I felt strong during the event, enjoying the best result that I feel I was capable of.
