BaseCamp athlete Chris Wengert shared his experience at the 2025 Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race in New York.
I’ve climbed Whiteface twice but never raced until yesterday. My first time was 1:38:00, second was 1:20:00, and yesterday I PR’d down to 1:11:38. I placed third in my CAT (they didn’t have podiums) with an average power of 264. I set a 60 min all time best of 271 with a 171 HR. Overall, I’m very happy and BaseCamp had a huge hand in this success.
It was hotter and more humid at the start than expected, which had me cracked the last 15 minutes or so. I just didn’t have enough fuel/liquid on me as a result of the heat. I went out pretty aggressively and held that pace up until the final half hour where I started to slip a bit. Overall I ended 97/183.
