BaseCamp athlete Clovis Pitchford shared his experience at the 2026 Homegrown Gravel Adventure bike race in Georgia and Alabama.

Another awesome day of riding outside. Today's gravel adventure crossed state lines as well as time zones. The neutral rollout started in dense fog with an alternate beginning as the Hooch River crested its banks, flooding the intended course, but finished with sunshine and blue skies. I met several awesome people along the route, got trucked by two groups of elite women who had started 15 min behind me, got a little muddy, and almost baptized in a stream. I rode with my plan of trying to stay in Zone 2 on the non-existent flats, coast downhill, and not exceed Tempo watts on the climbs. Got to meet up with two BaseCampers, Kae Takeshita and Buddy Mixon.
