Dennis's story: Gravel National Championships

BaseCamp athlete Dennis Wojcik shared his experience at the 2025 Gravel National Championships bike race in Minnesota.

Gravel Nationals….last race of the year for me. It was a challenging course, but Jim Pomeroy got me ready for it. Overall I didn’t leave anything in the tank and I beat the time I was shooting for by close to 10 minutes (came in at 4:59:21). Starting the race with thunder and some rain was new and novel for this San Diegian, but it made it interesting. The route was challenging but very scenic. The climbs were steep at times but BaseCamp training gave me the tools to push to the summit. The descents were fast (and fun), and the skills I learned at Solvang, PA gravel camp, and Mallorca really came in handy. There was some mud that made for some slippery times, and I have quite a few mosquito bite from that section but it was also fun.

Great seeing Joe Pomeroy and Natalie Barron IRL at the event. Congrats to both for their achievements.

Looking forward to December and the start of the next BaseCamp training session.
