Doreen's story: Huffmaster

BaseCamp athlete Doreen Wagner shared her experience at the 2026 Huffmaster bike race in California.

I had a mechanical issue at this race. I had been working through the mental performance boot camp and brought some of the tools I learned there to this race. Recognizing there was nothing I could do about the mechanical, I was open to other opportunities that might present themselves. I ended up hanging out with the race director which led to my bike getting fixed! I was still considered a DNF because I got a ride for a short while, but I was able to ride the vast majority of the course. These races are recon this year, so my primary goals were met even though I technically didn't finish.
