BaseCamp athlete Gary Wenzl shared his experience participating in the Cycle 300 Miles in March American Cancer Society fundraiser.
This fundraiser was put on by BaseCamp member Rhonda Wright and her husband Jamie. Not being a MTB guy and no mtb bike, Jamie loaned me one of his.
The temp got up into the 90s (about 100° warmer than a few days prior). The trails are awesome and exciting to ride. I made my first lap chasing and trying to keep up with Rhonda (which was impossible, and she waited a few times for me). The second lap I did by myself working on new mtb skills and enjoying the ride.
I actually had MTB shorts and was going to wear but just couldn’t get past no rear jersey pockets, so I wore my favorite last year BaseCamp solid green jersey with this year's second skin bibs.
Awesome experience learning new skills and using skills learned from BaseCamp. Loved the MTB, but afterwards it felt good to get back on my gravel bike. 😂 Met some awesome people and made new friends. The fundraiser greatly exceeded both the miles and the donations. Awesome food (including homemade cobbler).
The next day was a lot colder/cloudier but super enjoyable sharing our Sunday endurance ride with Rhonda.
