BaseCamp athlete Gary Wenzl shared his experience at the 2025 Husker Hundo Gravel Race in Nebraska.

Last race of the year racing with some athletic Cornhuskers from UNL. Me and another UNL student went off course due to bike computer (probably poor reception?) that cost us an additional 3 miles. We caught up with everyone except one guy who had passed us and pulled off 3rd and 4th place. I was happy to let him have 3rd because his head unit recalibrated and mine went wacko and he helped me stay on course. We teamed up very well; he learned a lot about BaseCamp and the difference coach led training makes.
Super windy conditions that were affecting the lighter-weight UNL student more than me. Last 10 miles I knew the rest of the course but would slow up for him to catch up (it was all a tough cross wind for the last stretch).
After the broken ribs and punctured lung deal last June, I was especially happy to work the wind as well as I did and end up without a crash! Plus making a full recovery to end the season with one last good effort felt good.
