Gary's story: Lazy Horse Gravel Grind

BaseCamp athlete Gary Wenzl shared his experience at the 2026 Lazy Horse Gravel Grind bike race in Nebraska.

Just a fun event where many cyclists come together each year to enjoy a 50k or 100k gravel grinder ride. Each small town/village had its own unique SAG stop.

This year Rhonda Wright and I decided to do our workouts, then double back to find her husband & the rest of the group, which we did, but eventually parted ways helping other struggling cyclists make it back (due to the heat). Ended the day feeling really good and strong…

The gravel & MMRs were as good as it gets, the food at the stops was excellent. Unfortunately this is the last year for this ride.
