Mike's story: Indiana Senior Games

Writer: BaseCampBaseCamp

BaseCamp coached athlete Mike Adsit shared his experience at the 2024 Indiana Senior Games.

Won it. 5k TT. Indiana Senior Games. 8:08. 75-79 age group. Now qualified for 2025 National Senior Games in time trial. Finished with a Bronze in the 20k road race. Coach Jim Pomeroy and I decided to pass on the 10k TT since [the TT] qualified me for both TT events in National Senior Games in 25. Sort of glad I did, the road race was hard and fast.

Thanks to Coach Jim Pomeroy, and to my BaseCamp community! LIVESTRONG Also a big shout out to BaseCamp sponsors Panache and My VeloFit. My TT bike is really dialed into a sustainable fit. And the Panache long sleeve jersey is so slick in the wind.

For anyone interested, the National Senior Games are held every two years. Ages 55+, in 5-year age increments. Four cycling events. 12k athletes attend in 22 sports. The biggest masters athlete venue in the world. Last year there were 47 bike racers in my 70-74 division.

Thanks again to my BaseCamp community! Grateful! California Bike Camp is up next. Super excited for the camp that Jill Gass has organized.

Mike’s journey through the Indiana Senior Games is a testament to resilience and the power of staying active at any age. For seniors like Mike, engaging in sports can significantly improve both physical and mental health. In addition to physical well-being, services like chaplain services can offer valuable emotional support, particularly for those facing end-of-life challenges. Programs that combine physical activity and compassionate care create a more fulfilling experience for older adults, fostering both strength and peace of mind.
