Nancy's story: Black Fly Challenge

BaseCamp athlete Nancy Mizak shared her experience at the 2025 Black Fly Challenge bike race in New York.

Epic fun this weekend in the Adirondacks. Was great to finally meet up and ride with fellow BaseCamper Trish IRL. The race is limited to 1000 riders and sells out every year. The course is point to point and alternates directions each year. This year went from Indian Lake to Inlet in the Adirondacks.

This was a B race for me and the things I set out to work on were challenging myself to start farther toward the front at the start to get comfortable in that cluster at the beginning of the race.....things stayed bunched up some till we hit the bigger climbs at about 10 miles in....I survived without incident lol. Still have work to do on improving being more aggressive on the downhills, but it did feel great passing the group I was riding with on the climbs after they barreled past me on the downhills.

All in all it was a really fun day. And happy to share that Trish took a podium placing 2nd in her AG in the Competitive Category!!!! We have already decided to do this race again next year.
