BaseCamp athlete Sarah Porch shared her experience at the 2025 Starrucca Crossing bike race in Pennsylvania.
Starrucca 2025: A delayed season wake up call for the legs for Andrea Troy, Toni Brooke, Linda Carangia, and Sarah Porch. 🤣 Seriously…
Events like Starrucca are special. Grassroots with an experienced event crew. Beautiful location. Genuine people.
Starrucca 2025 was a gem in the Endless Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania. The course consisted of rail trail, dirt, gravel and quiet rural roads that meandered through the region. Several days of continuous rainfall left its mark on the rail trail. Nothing like starting off in trail wide puddles for a couple of miles where you are not sure what is underneath.
After turning onto the dirt and gravel, the vistas were spectacular! We were able to take in the view and the spring time scents of honeysuckle & lilac given the smoothness of the quiet, dirt roads. With the blink of an eye, we passed through small towns (Montrose, Hop Bottom, Brooklyn, and Nicholson) and occasionally would see a local tending to their garden.
The ascents and descents never stopped. Our group chose the 50 miles with about 5,400 ft elevation. A few fun, windy roads with sharp turns, and a spicy uphill near the end took a little extra effort and focus.
All capped off with a beer and pizza in the local VFW. Highly recommend this event which also has 75 & 100 mile options.
