Sue's story: Lazy Horse Gravel Grind

BaseCamp athlete Sue Hageman shared her experience at the 2026 Lazy Horse Gravel Grind bike race in Nebraska.

Thanks to my coach Menachem Brodie for getting me ready after an elbow surgery!!! The course was very sandy about 1/3 or more. Not too many hills. The weather got hot and windy at the end. I almost quit but took a break and regathered myself for the last 10 miles against the winds. No pressure ride. It was not timed. A good one to come back with. I was just happy to finish!!! It was last Lazy Horse event ever, so rode with Lazy Horse jersey but my green bc bibs matched well!!! Ride on!!
