Tracy and Nancy's story: Ride Around Torch

BaseCamp athletes Tracy Gravlin and Nancy Mizak shared their experience at the 2025 Ride Around Torch bike ride in Michigan.

From Tracy: Yesterday was the picture perfect day for the R.A.T., Ride Around Torch. Torch is near Traverse City and is Michigan's longest and deepest lake. The whole thing was made better by having great BaseCamp friend Nancy Mizak along for the ride! It was fun to show off Northern Michigan to Nancy and fun to run into fellow BaseCamper Penelope Pankow along the way! We stopped to take pictures and to enjoy all the food stops. It ended up being a 65 mile day of fun and friendship! We were both on our Lauf Uthalds, and we got so many complements on them. We are always proud to represent BaseCamp!

From Nancy: The only thing better than having the ability to participate in cycling events is the opportunity to do them with other BaseCampers! Got to ride the RAT (Ride Around Torch, Elk Rapids, Michigan), a metric century event with my dear BaseCamp friend Tracy Gravlin. Extra bonus we got to meet Penelope Pankow on the course!!! I have to admit, getting used to riding on roads has not been comfortable or enjoyable for me on the roads where I live, but the roads here were incredible and coupled with perfect weather and riding partner it was excellent. Tracy and I worked well together, able to pass people with ease when we wanted to, and oh the many compliments we got about our Lauf Uthalds along the way!
