Trish's story: Shawangunk Grit

BaseCamp athlete Trish Vantucci shared her experience at the 2025 Shawangunk Grit gravel bike ride in New York.

My sister and I were tired before we started, but the rain held off and sun stayed out for a minute. The wind kicked up, and it became a harder ride. I had some derailleur problems with connectivity prior to the race and an amazing SRAM tech was able to get me up and running with a coke can and some duct tape, no joke. We both rode mountain bikes, while the majority of the 600ish riders rode gravel. With heavy rains and wind the previous 2 days, I am glad I had my mountain bike. It was a great way to end the season!! It's only the 4th year they have had the race, and I would definitely do it again. If you've never ridden the Gunks, it was a great ride!!
