BaseCamp athlete Wrenn Herman shared her experience at three of her summer events.
USA Masters Nationals did not go as planned, as I got overheated and my start time was 3 pm, next to last off for the entire day. I'm a morning person, so not a good time for me. I knew right away from the start that the race was not going to go well. My heart rate was high, and my power was not where it should've been. I ended up 5th place. My goal was to beat my previous time, and that didn't happen. I was pretty disappointed with that experience. But I kept training and working hard and tried to stay positive.
Next race was Swartout Challenge Time Trial (10-mile Ohio State TT championships). I felt good, and I was happy with my power and time. I won 1st in my age group and 2nd overall woman. I even received $200 for 2nd overall woman and $75 for 1st in my age group!
Next up was National Senior games in Des Moines, Iowa. All morning we were worried about the rain, but it stopped for the start of the race. It was a fast course for the 5k, and I won 2nd place. The 10k was the following day; a headwind after the turnaround made it challenging, but I won another 2nd place.
I'm so thankful for my coach Len Pettyjohn for continuing to make me a stronger, faster cyclist. Thanks to all the BaseCamp Explore team members who post encouraging stories that help me when I'm struggling with training or having an off day or an off week.
