BaseCamp athlete Doug Rusho shared his experience at the 2025 Rochester Cyclocross bike race in New York.
Prologue start and opening lap of the Rochester CX race. Stop number 2 of 4 of the US national series in our back yard. A lot of out-of-town heavy hitters in the masters classes, including four national champions and ex-pros. Racing was very fast, painful, and dynamic. I had minimal prep for CX so far, and this course requires not 1, or 2, but 4 dismounts per lap with steep uphill sprinting (well, hiking by lap 3 😝). Knocked out consistent laps for 18th out of 31 in the 50+ group.
I have been focusing more on endurance over the last month or two for this weekend's mtb marathon, Roots, Rocks, and Ridges mtb race in Ellicottville, NY.
